Rolling Stones Tour Posters - 15 April 2009

This month we have hung two limited edition prints of artwork for Rolling Stones tour posters. Both are by John Pasche, the man who designed the famous ‘lips and tongue’ logo. The artwork for the logo was purchased last year by the Victoria and Albert museum for over £50,000, so we are privileged to have work by the same artist hanging on our walls. Check out our Private View Gallery.

Storm's back catalogue - 15 April 2009

In 1996 Storm Studios were asked by EMI to create an image to promote a Pink Floyd back catalogue. The marvelous idea of painting the album covers onto the backs of beautiful girls was inspired and the record company loved the idea. Years later Storm Thorgerson made a limited edition print of this image and they went like hot cakes!

Storm has now revisited the concept and is making a series of prints showing off his prodigious portfolio of album cover design (and some more beautiful girls). The first of these was shot in the RAC Club in London’s Pall Mall. The location is quite stunning and luxurious, hence the title of this piece ‘Deluxe Back Catalogue’.

Hypergallery have co-published this in conjunction with Storm and are pleased to offer them to our visitors at a very special introductory price.

Central Station limited edition prints - 05 April 2009

It was 1985 and the centre of the Universe was Manchester! Tony Wilson's Factory Records and the Haçienda nightclub were at the heart of the vibrant 'Madchester' music scene.

Creating album covers for Factory's musicians was the work of Central Station Design, a critically acclaimed team of artists Pat Carroll, Matt Carroll and Karen Jackson.

This work, for The Happy Mondays, Black Grape and James as well as for Factory Records itself, spawned a new visual language and is regarded as among the most creative and innovative design work of the decade.

Hypergallery can now offer the chance to acquire these images as beautiful limited edition prints - get them while you can!

Eyes and Ears - 05 April 2009

Our MD Rob Smeaton talked to us about the background to the creation of the remarkable imagery in our new publications:

"Back in the last century the art of the album cover was pretty well confined to that medium. Despite a procession of great artists contributing to the genre; Peter Blake, Andy Warhol, Richard Hamilton to name a few (even Salvador Dali back in 1955); the art had never really been appreciated in its own right.

So when the album cover artist Storm Thorgerson wanted to put this right and present his work in an artworld context, he looked for a publisher who could help him. A couple of enthusiastic entrepreneurs (I was one of them) stepped in and worked with Storm to create limited edition fine art prints of twelve of the most iconic Pink Floyd covers from the previous twenty years. We called our company 'Rockoptic', and asked Storm to design the logo.

Typically, he came up with something extraordinary."

Four variations of the logo are now available in a very limited edition of only 25 prints each, plus the surreal image created by combining mirrored versions together. We're offering them for £80 each, or £300 if you buy the whole set of 5 prints.
