The Incredible String Band" was formed in 1965 by Scottish folk musicians Mike Heron, Robin Williamson and Clive Palmer, a line-up that only lasted for one album. The subsequent core members Mike and Robin went on to create some memorable music that challenged conventional pop and folk norms and, although they lacked The Beatles popularity, they were arguably just as innovative. Bob Dylan himself referred to one of their songs (‘October Song’) as a favourite of the time.
Their influences ranged from traditional Scottish and Irish folk to Moroccan chanting, and in the context of the massive interest in World Music today, they can and should be listened to with a fresh ear.
