Nice started life as a backing band for P.P. Arnold, but later became the kings of art-rock. The band consisted of Keith Emerson, Lee Jackson, Brian "Blinky" Davison and David O'List.
Their stage act was at times outrageous, including Emerson throwing knives into his Hammond Organ, and the burning of the American flag. Although these displays delighted the audiences, they caused much controversy in the media.
Like many top bands of the age, they turned to the design group Hypgnosis for the art on their final album 'Elegy', before Keith Emerson's departure from the band in 1971
