Limited edition fine art print - Led Zeppelin 1 by George Hardie

George Hardie also worked with the Hipgnosis design team headed by Storm Thorgerson responsible for other Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd published prints, notably Presence and Floyd’s classic The Dark Side Of The Moon.

Hardie first approached the group’s guitarist, Jimmy Page, with an idea for a design involving the airship icon. Jimmy then asked him to refer directly to a photograph that he had found showing the Hindenburg disaster. The print is taken from the original artwork that resulted from that project. The result is a screenprint with added colour treatment applied by George in consultation with Brad Faine at Coriander Studios. The approach was made specially for this print edition. It is a unique reworking of the original artwork by the artist, not simply a reproduction of the album cover artwork.

Countess Eva Von Zeppelin was not impressed by the invasion of the family name by the artist, threatening legal action over the use of her privileged family name by the group.
Despite this, Led Zeppelin One was a turning point in rock music and the cover art is the band’s most enduring artwork image.
