work to scale against six foot person
Storm Thorgerson’s image for the cover of O.A.R's 2005 album ‘Stories Of A Stranger’ is one of a series of twenty prints, each in an edition of twenty known as the 2020 Series. Storm describes for us how this image came about . . .
The main preoccupation of O.A.R. (Of A Revolution) at the time of this record was how to balance the life of a travelling musician, a life on the road, with family life i.e. staying at home. So we have a man running from his house in a hurry on his way to work - hence the suit and briefcase. But his briefcase is in the shape of the house he’s just left because he’s taking home to work. But the house he’s just left is also in fact a huge briefcase belonging to a giant who is reaching down to pick it up on ‘his’ way to work.
"And so it goes on, a dilemma that is difficult to answer. ...we built a giant house/briefcase, took it in sections to the location and erected it, photographed it in afternoon light, as you can see, then came home (and they call that work)."
