Limited edition of
This limited edition album artwork print was created by the outstanding contemporary Argentinean artist, Pilar Zeta, for Coldplay's 2015 album, A Head Full of Dreams. She has produced two limited editions of the print: one large scale print countersigned by the band and a smaller print signed simply by her, as you can see from the photo below. Zeta was invited to produce this artwork when Phil Harvey, Creative Director for Coldplay, saw an example of her work and showed it to the rest of the band. She met with the band in 2014, around a year before the album's release. Zeta brought the band together, along with their children and photographs of themselves as kids, to paint pictures and collaborate on what became a really huge collage; but how to turn this project into an album cover image? Zeta explained to Coldplay.com, "there was still the idea of having something geometric and we had this image, the Flower of Life. Chris really liked it because it’s a pattern that’s in nature, and it has a really powerful meaning...the Flower of Life has existed for thousands of years. It’s a pattern that’s in nature. If you grab a leaf and multiply it, then it creates the Flower of Life. It’s on the walls of the Osiris temple in Egypt. And it’s a very beautiful shape because it’s made with circles and it’s a nice representation of connection and the whole. So we had this idea of the Flower of Life with the colours." Using that collage as it seen through a kaleidoscope, with the flower of life at the heart of the image, has resulted in a very rich and almost spiritual image that still has an incredibly strong graphic presence. It is very much a collaboration with the band and yet Zeta's strong individual aesthetic shines through this image and the beautiful prints that came out of it.
