About Uprising

This archival inkjet print shows Storm Thorgerson playing with ideas of uprisings and revolutions for Muse, a band who often return to Storm for their album and single covers. If you could be bothered to count them you should find that there are 150 teddy bears in this shot, rising from (or sinking into) the earth looking surreal, ominously cute, sad even, and deeply ambiguous. Each one about 2 feet high and purchased at great expense from Hamleys toy shop in Regent Street. Reminiscent of Storm Thorgerson’s almost pathological insistence on the transportation of 700 beds to a beach in Devon for Pink Floyd’s A Momentary Lapse of Reason (also available from Hypergallery), these teddy bears were buried one by one in a field in Bedfordshire in 2009. You might think that Muse could have been ‘bemused’ by Storm’s love of the eccentric, but that was exactly why they loved working with him. Hypergallery now have just a few copies of this edition of 50 left.
